Chicharito just isn’t a good footballer at all. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he’s probably the sharpest striker in the country when it comes to being in the right places and in terms of losing his man etc, but his touch and all round ability on the ball… good God. Don’t even get me started, haha!

Problem is that nowadays, once you have a reputation, be it good or bad, it sticks. I guess it depends on what people mean by ‘under-rated’. Does it mean a player get’s called shit when they aren’t? Or that a player just doesn’t get much attention all round?

I really like Mark Davies at Bolton, he has some serious talent. Could easily play at a higher level but doesn’t get the praise he deserves because of the club he plays for.

Personally I find Micah Richards to be over-rated. He’s good, but not as good as people/the media make him out to be.

Yeah, that’s a really good point. I know what you mean. Similarly to Darren Fletcher and Park Ji Sung it can also work the other way. You can receive so much stick and be called overrated, so much so that in essence people don’t appreciate your true value. I agree on Javier Hernandez, definitely overrated. Are there any others I’ve missed?

You know, you could just as easily put Gareth Barry in the under-rated section – he get’s far more stick than he does praise nowadays.

Personally believe that the most over-rated player in the league is Javier Hernández. Not because I don’t think he isn’t good at what he does, but because he receives no criticism for what he lacks, which is an awful amount and get’s praised for things he never shows.

I see it being based on their reputation right now. I still think Gareth Bale is a very good player, but he is number 1 on the list because of how hyped up he is. Like I said, it’s down to ability in relation to reputation in the media and amongst fans. Gareth Bale is way more hyped up than Ashley Young. Suggesting teams would be interested in paying £35 million for him is ridiculous. Young’s reputation has dropped slightly since last season when he made his move, so he is not highly rated enough to be more overrated than Bale, if that makes sense. I do like your point on Steven Gerrard though. The game against Arsenal was a case in point, he didn’t look well suited to Brendan Rodger’s style. I think he has too much class for that to last much longer.

Surely Ashley Young and Gareth Bale should be the other way around? Don’t forget Spurs only paid £7 million for Bale which is a great bit of business compared to the Young deal and Bale is far more productive. Also, what’s the timescale on this? For example, one merseyside hat-trick aside, what’s Steven Gerrard done for Liverpool these past 2 seasons? Pretty much bugger all in my opinion, yet he can still walk straight into the team on his ‘legend’ status alone.
